The Big Bang Challenge is a free resource that helps young people turn ideas into STEM projects through simple, step-by-step activities.
Designed for students aged 11 to 18, The Challenge supports project-based learning and helps young people explore real-world issues through STEM. Whether you have a single lesson, several days, or a few weeks available, The Challenge can be adapted to suit your classroom, STEM club or enrichment.
Students are encouraged to investigate problems, develop solutions and think creatively while building skills used by STEM professionals every day.
How it works
Each Big Bang Challenge focuses on a different theme and invites students to explore a question or problem.
As they work through The Challenge, students can:
investigate real-world issues
develop ideas and solutions
apply STEM knowledge and skills
reflect on their progress
build their confidence in STEM
Young people can complete a single Challenge or explore multiple themes, depending on the time available and their interests.

Projects developed through The Challenge can be entered into The Big Bang Competition. Students can showcase their work and receive feedback from STEM professionals.
