Be the Bridge Master
Students step into the role of Bridge Master and take on the challenge of maintaining the Clifton Suspension Bridge!

Overview
Could your students take charge of one of the UK's most famous landmarks? In this engaging STEM workshop at the Clifton Suspension Bridge and Museum, students step into the role of bridge master and take responsibility for maintaining the iconic bridge.
Working with a realistic budget, students tackle a series of maintenance challenges, weighing up costs, priorities and the needs of different stakeholders. Along the way, they'll use maths skills to make evidence-based decisions and discover how engineering keeps vital infrastructure safe and operational.
Through a video interview with the real bridge master, students gain an insight into the role of a civil engineer and the skills needed to manage a complex engineering structure. They'll also explore the wider team behind the bridge, learning about the range of STEM careers involved in its upkeep.
This hands-on workshop brings together maths, engineering and problem-solving, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world careers and workplaces. By taking on authentic challenges faced by professionals, students develop their decision-making skills while discovering the impact engineers have on everyday life.
