Introduce students to engineering and technology careers

Looking for ways to bring engineering and technology careers into your lessons? This collection brings together free, quality-assured activities and resources for secondary students, designed to be used over 2 terms.

Suitable for all STEM teachers, these activities help students discover future career pathways, meet inspiring role models and see how STEM is used in the real world.

How do I use this collection?

Simply follow the 6 steps below. You'll find links to all the activities, experiences and resources at the bottom of the page.

First term

1. kick off with EUK Education's Engineer your future presentation. The fully editable slide deck will help you inspire your students about a career in engineering

2. order our free Green engineering careers posters for your classroom. A set of 6 inspiring posters showing how engineers transform the way we travel, eat, use, power things, build and breathe. Includes suggested discussion points and homework tasks

3. take part in the CREST Bronze award. CREST Bronze projects are the perfect introduction to STEM project work! They focus on fun and transferable skills, whilst providing the real-life experience of ‘being’ a scientist

Second term

1. share our leaflet Engineering and technology, the key to the future with your students. You can download the leaflet free of charge from the link below

2. take part in one of the I'm an Engineer, Get me out of here activities. I'm an Engineer supports students science capital. The activity introduces students to engineering professionals with whom they share personal interests and opinions. Students make connections between engineering and their own lives. It helps them see that engineering, and by extension, an engineering-related career, could be for ‘someone like me’

3. divide your students into small groups. Ask them to use the filters to find a case study of an engineer or technician working in a sector that interests them. Then have them discuss one of the real job case studies and reflect on:

   • what was the main challenge addressed in the case study?

   • why was it important to find a solution to this problem?

   • what positive impacts did the engineering solutions have?

   • what aspects of the engineers' work in the case study inspire you the most?

   • what did you learn from this real job story about the role of engineers in?

   • how has this case study influenced your thoughts about pursuing a career in engineering?
