STEM On Track

A year-long programme that empowers students to build their own racing kart, discover the STEM theory behind it, and race it in the Grand Finals against other competing schools. Easy to implement into a Science/STEM club or enrichment lesson with step by step guidance and a true legacy impact.

Overview

STEM On Track is a year-long STEM and engineering programme where students build and race a real racing kart, applying science, maths, and engineering through hands-on learning.

The programme includes

  • A full racing kart kit (owned by the school to rebuild each year)

  • Access to STEM On Track's Race Academy online learning platform for staff and students

  • 39 week-by-week STEM modules aligned to the KS3 Science and Maths curriculum, designed to run as either a club or a timetabled lesson

  • Participation in 2 on-track race events at Whilton Mill Circuit: a regional Test Day and, the National Finals (for qualifying teams) which also doubles up as a STEM & Careers Fair with everyone welcome

  • Roles go beyond driving, with opportunities in design, media, engineering, and marketing

  • Optional Bronze CREST Award accreditation

  • Guidance on securing local sponsorship to offset or fully cover costs

Key logistics

  • STEM On Track provide the full kart kit (reusable year on year), tools, and access to the online Race Academy.

  • Students get hands-on practical sessions alongside digital learning, with everything needed for teachers to deliver with minimal planning burden.

Cost

  • There is a one-off cost for the kart-kit, tools and shipping (£3,250)

  • And an annual programme cost of £3,450

  • Optional extras: Student racing licences (£50), custom graphics kit (£175)

Support and inclusion

  • STEM On Track work with mainstream, private, SEND, and AP schools, and support teams in securing local sponsorship to fund their place.

  • They provide schools with a sponsorship toolkit to make this easier, and some schools access central funding support where needed.
