Overview

This interactive robotics coding session is designed to develop primary-aged students' digital-critical thinking and problem solving - all while having fun!

Over the course of the workshop, learners will take on 2 creative, health-focused projects that bring coding to life in ways that feel both fun and surprisingly meaningful.

Throughout both builds, students will build and program LEGO Spike robots, use Scratch to solve real-world challenges, see coding in action and understand how coding is used in everyday technology, and develop key skills such as team building, problem solving and communication.

The workshop supports key elements of the National Curriculum for computing at Key Stage 2:

  • Design, write, and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems; solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts.
  • Use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs; work with variables and various forms of input and output.
  • Use logical reasoning to explain how some simple algorithms work and to detect and correct errors in algorithms and programs.

Location

The workshop takes place at Baylab, an onsite teaching lab in Bayer's UK headquarters in Reading.
