Teachers can now access Welsh-language resources to help students explore solutions to tackling climate change in science and geography lessons.
The Climate Schools Programme helps young people understand the climate crisis, explore solutions and make links between classroom learning and future green careers. It includes resources across science, geography and English, alongside assemblies, tutor-time activities and extra-curricular options.
The free, plug and play taster sessions are designed for 11 to 14-year-olds and are ready to use in the classroom. They support teachers to bring climate education to life through practical, curriculum-linked activities.
What’s available?
The geography taster session explores sustainability and decision-making, examining how human and physical processes interact to influence the climate. Students also investigate practical strategies for environmental stewardship.
The science taster session focuses on the green energy transition. Students learn about renewable energy and take part in a practical activity to create a solar oven.
Each resource includes Welsh-language materials for teachers and students, including teacher notes, student worksheets and lesson content. The science session also includes a Welsh-language slide deck.
Supporting climate learning in Welsh
The translated resources make it easier for Welsh-medium and bilingual schools to use Climate Schools Programme activities. They also help students discuss climate solutions using the language they learn in.
Teachers can use the taster sessions as a stand-alone lesson or as an introduction to the wider programme. They're suitable for lessons, assemblies, tutor time or extra-curricular activities.
