The Institution of Civil Engineers

About The Institution of Civil Engineers

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is a 97,000-strong global membership organisation with over 200 years of history. It is a centre of engineering excellence, qualifying engineers and helping them maintain lifelong competence, assuring society that the infrastructure they create is safe, dependable and well designed.

The ICE is also dedicated to inspiring the next generation of civil engineers and provides a wide range of educational resources tailored to engage and inspire young learners. These include printed materials like careers guides and posters, activities, and challenges designed to support STEM education while linking real-world engineering concepts to the classroom. The institution also facilitates STEM Ambassador school visits, has a free virtual work experience programme and offers scholarships to those about to study civil engineering at university and apprentices.

The ICE CityZen competitions introduce students to the challenges of sustainable urban development and engineering climate change solutions through the unique problem-solving online games. Undertaken by hundreds of students each year, the ICE CityZen Award is the winner of three awards in the fields of education technology and engagement.
