Career pathways in Wales

Routes into an engineering or tech careers

For students in Wales working at Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3, they can study:

  • GCSEs
  • Engineering Learning Programme
  • WJEC Level 1 or 2 Vocational Award in engineering, which are a technical routes if they prefer hands-on learning  

 

Post-16 options include:

  • AS and A levels in engineering design, maths and/or physics
  • foundation apprenticeships in engineering, IT, construction, built environment and manufacturing
  •  advanced apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships combine workplace training with studying 

 

In higher education, university degree courses can offer:

  • general engineering courses
  • more specific study into computer science, manufacturing or technology
