Career pathways in Northern Ireland

Routes into an engineering or tech career

Students in Northern Ireland interested in pursuing a career in engineering and technology can:

  • choose to study great subjects like maths, science, geography, and design and technology
  • gain qualifications such as GCSEs or vocational qualifications such as BTEC Level 2

 

Post-16 options include:

  • apprenticeships (including advanced apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships) which combine workplace training with studying
  • TQUK Level 3 Diploma in Design, Engineer, Construct which offers practical experience in the built environment sector

 

For students considering Higher Education, pathways include: 

  • university degree
  • foundation degree courses 

Both of these degree options are available in general engineering, or cover specific fields such as computer science, manufacturing or technology.
