On track to net zero

Make transport sustainable

Challenge your students to make transport and train travel sustainable with the Big Bang Challenge. Every Big Bang Challenge focuses on a particular theme and asks young people questions, to inspire and encourage them to get creative. Support students through 3 sessions to build a STEM project, step-by-step:

Session 1
Students decide on a problem to solve, and develop critical analysis and investigative thinking skills.
The outcome for this session is to create a problem statement.

Session 2
Students think of potential solutions to their problem, create a prototype and think of ways they would test this against their problem statement.

Session 3
Students reflect on their project, what they learnt and anything they would do differently next time.

In your challenge pack, you will find a game-board for young people to track progress through the challenge, plus certificates which can be handed out to celebrate the STEM skills they learn along the way.

This resource includes:

  • On track to net zero student guide
  • On track to net zero teacher notes
  • Big Bang Challenge gameboard and certificates

Your school isn’t eligible to register for facilitator led Energy Quest. We aim to encourage and inspire young people from groups who are underrepresented in the engineering profession. To help us focus on schools that are more likely to have students from these groups, independent schools/colleges/sixth forms are not eligible to register for facilitator led sessions. We know that this might be disappointing. We don’t want your STEM journey to end here - you can apply to the teacher led version for free.
