Spotlight on The Big Bang Competition 2024 winners

This year, The Big Bang Competition panel of expert judges were blown away by the knowledge, passion, enthusiasm, skill and creativity of this fabulous group of worthy winners.

The Big Bang UK Young Engineer of the Year was awarded to Pacha Prichard from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Edern. Pacha’s project was a Portable Pollution Monitor which assesses air quality and uses emojis to communicate pollution levels to the community.  

Sarah Ansaf won the Big Bang UK Young Scientist of the Year award. Sarah carried out extensive research and experiments, analysing the dissolution rates of pain relievers then relating it to absorption into the body. She discovered the fastest way to get pain relief is from effervescent or dispersible tablets.  

The Big Bang UK Young Technologists of the Year award went to a team of 6 from The Blue Coat School. Their solar panel design tracks the sun’s movement. potentially revolutionising energy generation with a 16% increase in efficiency over static models. Well done to Archit Chinnari, Ayush Shah, Benedict Dooley, Ciaran Scanlan, Rakesh Vaddepalli and William Dang. Thanks to Siemens for supporting this award.   

Congratulations to them all. We’re really looking forward to seeing their STEM futures unfold!  

The Big Bang Competition is open to young people in the UK aged 11 to 18 in state-funded secondary education, who are home educated or who enter as part of a community group. Competitors can only enter one project, either on their own or as part of a team. And best of all, it’s free to enter!
