5 years of inspiring the next generation

This week marks a major milestone for Neon, the UK’s dedicated platform for engineering and technology experiences in schools. Neon is officially 5 years old!

Since its launch in September 2020, Neon has supported thousands of educators across the country, helping them boost teaching and raise students’ career aspirations. Powered by EUK Education, Neon works in partnership with the engineering and tech community to inspire the next generation.

What is Neon?

We like to think Neon’s mission is simple – make it easy for primary and secondary teachers to find quality-assured engineering and technology activities. Our dedicated team showcase the UK’s best workshops, trips, and events from trusted providers. Every featured experience meets Neon's quality standards. This supports teachers find, book and enjoy engaging and inclusive activities that highlight real-world applications of STEM.

Teachers can confidently identify experiences with different learning outcomes, make links with employers and STEM professionals, and build a plan of inspiring activities for their students. For secondary schools, Neon makes sure experiences include explicit careers dimensions and align with Gatsby benchmarks. For primary schools, the focus is on broadening horizons, challenging career stereotypes, and putting curriculum subjects into real-life context.

How can Neon help me?

Neon helps raise young people’s aspirations with positive, relevant messaging about engineering and technology careers. All experiences meet safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection standards, and set clear expectations around costs and time required.

Rachel Mason from Science Made Simple shared why she loves working with the Neon team to showcase their activities:

"It's another platform (other than our own website) that aligns us with other trusted industry partners and organisations. It aligns us with EngineeringUK as a trusted partner, and that gives teachers confidence in the products we can provide in school."

We don’t stop at supporting young people’s STEM knowledge. Neon supports helps educators improve their knowledge of careers in engineering and tech, and discover new ways to showcase their subjects.

Phil Burnett, from ZooLabUK, also shared how Neon can support teachers:

"We're delighted to be on there... It's a site to go to, you can see what's on offer, and choose for yourself what you think the kids might enjoy. I think it's a great thing for teachers to have."
