Explore careers helping the environment and tackling climate change
This Earth Day (22 April) we’re shining a light on the importance and breadth of green careers in engineering and technology, and how they help tackle climate change.

By 2030, up to 725,000 new green jobs are expected to be created. Our resources, content and programmes support your students to think about what their future careers could look like – and the issues they could help solve. Explore 7 ways to inspire your students with sustainability below.
1. Climate Schools Programme
The Climate Schools Programme gives you the resources, knowledge and confidence to address climate change with your students. It’s designed to make the links between curriculum subjects and real-world careers. Plus, it stimulates debate and interest, communicating a solutions-focused message.
2. Green careers posters and postcards
These inspiring and thought-provoking posters show how people working in engineering and technology help us to achieve net zero and support environmental sustainability. Focusing on food, air, fashion, power, travel and the places we live in. The 6 posters contain discussion points and questions to talk about with your class. They’re also available in postcard-sized handouts.
3. The Big Bang Fair
Come along to The Big Bang Fair (from 17 to 19 June, the NEC in Birmingham) for exciting activities about sustainability and the environment. Get hands-on with plant science, step into a climate crisis-themed escape room, and face challenges based on environmental themes! Visitors can also get up close with animals that inspire scientists and engineers to develop new human materials, machines and technology.
4. Choose a sustainability activity for your school
Find a range of in-school, online and off-site activities relating to sustainability over on Neon. From building a micro greenhouse to hands-on learning about solar and wind power, there’s something to get all your students thinking.
5. Meet engineers working in sustainability
Hear directly from real engineers working to help the environment and tackle climate change. Find out what they do day to day, how they got into their roles, and why they love their careers.
6. Big Bang Challenge
Encourage your students to think creatively about solutions to burning questions and develop their own projects around current issues. How can we make our air fresh again? Could we create more urban farms? Do you think technology can help make a more sustainable planet? How can we power trains without using emissions?

7. Energy Quest
Get your students to work in teams to understand more about sustainable energy. The Energy Quest workshop includes a series of practical experiments to come up with solutions to a real life challenge.
