Does your school need some Big Bang magic?

Date published: 24 September 2024

A Big Bang at School event is a unique opportunity to celebrate all things STEM and support your careers programming.

A school science lab. Many students surround a work bench as a cool box exudes dry ice. The students reach to touch it. They smile as they watch on.

Evaluation from 2023 shows a Big Bang at School day has real impact for both students and teachers:

96% of students enjoyed taking part in their Big Bang at School, girls were 2.5 times more likely to enjoy the day than boys and 95% of teachers agreed the event was accessible to students of all abilities.

Oban High School in Scotland is very rural and has a real mix of students – including from the smaller islands, and Polish, Romanian and Ukrainian young people, as well as a high percentage on free school meals. Lesley Lyon from the school organised a Big Bang at School event, supported by a bursary from Drax Power Station in Yorkshire.

If you want to host an inspiring STEM day filled with amazing science and engineering activities, workshops and project work – we have just the thing! The Big Bang at School Blueprint includes insights and connections so you can create your own event and start an extraordinary STEM journey for your students.

Register before 30 September

I’d say give it a go! We did the Road to RIAT activity as part of our Big Bang at School with first and second years – it was amazing, the students really enjoyed it. They got to learn all about airplanes and designed their own, with little motors. The experience was well sorted out and organised – there’s nothing I would change – we even got a certificate! We were really delighted to receive the bursary, and it’s helped shaped the future of the school STEM engagement programme, and the students themselves.
