Sustainability focused lesson plans get seal of approval

The EUK Education team are delighted to share that the Climate Schools Programme has been awarded the Skills Builder Impact Level 1: Raising Awareness of Essential Skills accreditation.

The accreditation has been awarded to the Climate Schools Programme to recognise the use of Skills Builder approaches in our lesson plans. It shows that the Climate Schools Programme introduces students to the 8 essential skills identified by Skills Builder, including teamwork, problem solving, creativity and leadership. Teachers and educators can trust Climate Schools Programme to support students to build future skills for the workplace, while also taking part in curriculum-linked learning.

Kim Biddulph, Head of Engagement Projects, commented on the recent accolade:

"We are incredibly proud to receive the Skills Builder Impact Level 1 accreditation. It highlights our commitment to building and developing the essential skills young people will need for their future careers.

Including the essential skills allows the Climate Schools Programme to empower students to become confident and knowledgeable about climate solutions in engineering and tech. It also supports them to recognise their own strengths and match their skills to future green jobs."

What is the Climate Schools Programme?

The Climate Schools Programme is designed for 11 to 14 year olds in secondary schools across the UK. Our curriculum-linked resources span English, science and geography lessons, giving you everything you need to deliver engaging, exciting and impactful lessons.

In English, students explore the language of climate change, learning how to spot and think critically about information. Science lessons delve into the technology and innovation behind environmental sustainability. Through practicals and lesson plans, teachers can encourage young people to question, experiment with, and understand climate solutions. Geography lessons investigate government targets for achieving net zero emissions and look at the practical steps required to meet these ambitious goals.

A focus on future careers

Like everything we do at EUK Education, the Climate Schools Programme brings future careers to life for students. In every subject, lessons link classroom learning to future career opportunities, helping students make connections to the world of work. Lessons introduce students to Skills Builder skills icons and their definitions, showing them which skills they are learning and developing. These icons also showcase career role models who apply these skills in their careers, inspiring students to see themselves as future STEM professionals.
