This dashboard focuses on the current engineering and technology workforce, and the diversity within it. It looks at future job and skills projections, as well as geographical skills specialisms. It also shows appetite for STEM careers among young people, and how our programmes increase interest among them.

Key findings
- 6.4 million people work in engineering and technology jobs in the UK (19% of all jobs)
- Engineering and technology jobs are predicted to grow across the UK to 2030, faster than other industries
- Up to 725,000 new jobs are needed to support the transition to net zero
- Women are the most underrepresented group in engineering and tech roles – just 16.9% of the workforce are women, compared to 56% across other occupations
- Disabled people are also underrepresented – at 14% compared to 19% across other occupations
- Minority ethnic groups are underrepresented too – 14% compared to 18% in other occupations
- Boys are more interested in all STEM careers than girls, with the widest gap for engineering and technology
